Hazaribag, Nov 11: A few thieves laid hands on ready-made garments worth Rs 5 lakh after cutting the shutter of the New Om Sai garment shop situated in the daily market. The crime was committed at a place which is situated only a few meters away from the Sadar police station.

The miscreants used the trolley of the Hazaribag Municipal Corporation to take away the garments to another place. They also took the CCTVs, DVR and inverter of the shop.

Owner of the shop, Bhim Kumar Kesri said the theft took place on Thursday at midnight.

“I was informed by someone today that the shutter of my shop is damaged. When I came here in the morning, I found out about the burglary,” he said.

According to the owner, a similar theft took place in his shop a month ago when the thieves had taken away garments worth Rs 1 lakh.

“This daily market is situated on the main road amid a huge population. Even Sadar thana is situated at one corner of this market and still, these thefts are taking place here,” said another shop owner.

Many said despite the installation of CCTV cameras, thieves committed this crime and didn’t forget to take away the DVR with them. The cleaner of the corporation confirmed that the trolley kept near this shop is also missing. It seems that thieves used it for transportation of the garments and other items from here.

Sadar police officials reached the spot and said they are probing this case and will catch the culprits soon. “We have arrested the thieves involved in the theft that took place last month,” they added.

However, the shopkeepers said that no stolen item was recovered from the arrested ones which raise eyebrows over this success story by the police.
