Jamshedpur, Nov 14: Students of Motilal Nehru Public School in Jamshedpur made former MLA of Baharagora and BJP state spokesperson Kunal Sarangi roll a bread to spread the message of gender equality at their Children’s Day fair on Monday.

The Motilal Nehru Public School organised Happy Tidings, a unique Children’s Day fair that was based on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The school fair showcased stalls that showcased problems and probable solutions based on SDG 4 -Quality Education, SDG 5 -Gender Equality, SDG 6- Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG -14 Life Below Water and SDG 15- Life on Land. The motive was to make students learn and spread the message of SDGs for a better world where they learn inclusive education, caring for the environment and gender equality.

“We are showcasing the problem of sparrows which is a rare sight these days due to loss of habitat, rapid urbanisation, mobile towers and many more. So we have come up with probable solutions like organic farming for the birds to feed on and also installing mobile towers with sensors that will keep the birds away from such towers that threaten their life,” said a class XI student of Motilal Nehru Public School, Yash Raj whose team worked on SDG- Life on Land.

His counterpart from the science stream Basit Azhaan, Traya and Krish worked on SDG Quality education using augmented reality(AR) and virtual reality (VR) in classrooms for involvement in studies. They also developed a unique QR code for chemistry learning.

“Learning with technology can help us be more inclusive. We have used QR codes which when scanned can show you the molecule and its formula. We have also worked on more digitisation of classrooms that will give everyone easy access to learning and making disabled-friendly infrastructure in educational institutions,” said Azhaan.

Sarangi who was otherwise the chief guest at the school fair appreciated the efforts of the school that thought about not only children’s entertainment but making it along the lines of SDGs to help students build a better world to live in.

Principal of Motilal Nehru Public School Ashu Tiwary said, ” Last time we had included all the 17 SDGs in the fair but we thought to only focus on some of the most important goals that the government has included in the New Education Policy. The process of learning is enhanced when students work together on these sensitive and important topics.”
