Daltonganj, Nov 15: A White Coat ceremony was held today in the Medinirai Medical College at Pokhraha in Daltonganj. It was chaired by the in-charge principal of the medical college Dr R D Nagesh and attended by a battery of faculties including Dr Atul Prakash, Dr Yousuf, Dr Manisha,  Dr Nikhil Nishant, Dr D Ravishankar and others.

73 MBBS students of the session 2022-23 were made to don white coat which is doctor’s apron. The students looked rapturous during the event.

In-charge principal Dr R D Nagesh while addressing the students asked the fresher MBBS students not to be in a panic over ragging and advised them to be on guard and not to delay reporting any apprehension to the faculties.

Dr Nagesh said ragging is a serious offence and is punishable by law as well. He reminded the students about how the advancement in technology is redefining diagnosis and treatment mode and hence they must try to run with the growth and development of medical science.

Dr Nikhil Nishant, head of the department of preventive and social medicine as well as the student in charge, spoke at some good length on ragging, asking each student to feel free and fearless to report to the anti-ragging committee or any faculty member about it without any loss of time.

He also asked the students, not to bunk classes but to maintain 75 per cent attendance in theory and 80 per cent in practicals.

The medical college has prominently put up names and phone numbers of the members of the anti-ragging committee right at the entrance of its main building nevertheless there is a strong need of warning against ragging at more places in the college and its vast premise.

The other keynote of this ceremony focused on discipline. Dr Yousuf was the first to come on the mic and asked the freshers to respect the white coat as it is their identity, different from the rut of others.

Dr M C Das asked the freshers to act and behave like a doctor in making and not to venture out in shorts, Bermuda etc into the places where many will be watching them.

Dr Atul Prakash wanted these fresher MBBS students to first be good souls and good serving doctors. “Be ‘Insaan’ first,” he said.

The ceremony was anchored by Dr Manisha and a senior office staff Deepak Pandey and his team worked hard in the conduct of the ceremony.

Lagatar24.com spoke to two students one of who said he is from Meghalaya. He said he would love to eat litti-chokha here. The other student whom this correspondent spoke to was a girl student describing herself as from Jharkhand saying “I will handle any apprehension of the ragging.”
