Ranchi: Students from B-Schools compete at MAXFEST-2022 in XISS

Ranchi, Nov 18: The Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi hosted an inter B-School Competition MAXFEST organised by Marketing Management Programme and Markbuzzz, The Marketing Club of XISS, Ranchi in its campus on Friday. Students of MDI Murshidabad, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Bodh Gaya, and XISS Ranchi participated in a total of five competitive events during the day.

The event commenced with the lighting of lamp and welcome note from Father Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur, Director, XISS expressing warm welcome to the panel of jury including Philip Matthews, MD of Mangalam Lubricants; Rajiv Gupta, Curator of TEDx; and Father Dr Ashok Ohol, Assistant Professor, XISS. Dr Kujur laid emphasis on the importance of extra-curricular activities in the student life and said, “To be successful in life you not only need knowledge, but also wisdom.”

Father Dr Pradeep Kerketta, Assistant Director, XISS talked about the importance of marketing in the economy and appreciated the creativity of students, their persuasive and negotiating abilities.

Dr Amar E. Tigga, Dean Academics, XISS, shared his views on up scaling the event to a real market scenario which would help the participants to get a reality check and organise this event in different locations of Ranchi in the upcoming years.

Dr Bhabani Prasad Mahapatra, Head of Marketing Management Programme, warmly welcomed all the guests and participants and said, “To accomplish great things, one must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”

The XISS campus was abuzz with competitive events, in Rural Zap, which was a Live Sales Competition where students were given products to sell where Team Phoneix of XISS won. Brand Race was an event where participants had to pitch a business idea that would solve a real-world problem and the winners was Team Unitum of XISS and IIM Bodh Gaya were the runners up.

Moreover, Team Unitum came up with an idea of a Smart Dustbin using AI, which would scan a thrown-away wrapper and add it to the shopping cart for future use. In Mark Manthan, a business quiz aimed to check the business acumen of the participants was won by Team BroCode of IIM Bodh Gaya.

In ReCreate The Ad, an interesting competition aimed at putting participants in a situation where they had to come up with strategies for reviving a failed ad campaign was won by Team Creative Buds of IIM Sambalpur. Karya Neeti, a case study competition was won by Team PS of XISS Ranchi.

In the end, students of Marketing Management performed a flash mob. The event was well-coordinated by Faculty members of the programme namely, Dr Pinaki Ghosh, Dr Pooja and Dr Tina Murarka.
