Pune, Nov 26: Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale passed away on Saturday at the age of 77 in Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. He had been on ventilator support system for some time.

His wife said that he suffered from “multiorgan failure.” His final rituals will be performed at 6 pm at Vaikunth Samshan Bhumi in Pune, and his body will be stored at Balgandharv Rangmanch for Antim Darshan.

Gokhale was well-known for his parts in Hindi films and television productions as well as Marathi theatre. He had a lengthy and fruitful career and acted in both Hindi and Marathi movies. On November 14, 1945, the veteran actor was born in Poona, Bombay Presidency, into a family who had acting in their genes.

His great-grandmother Durgabai Kamat was the first female actor on the Indian screen, and he was the son of Marathi theatre and film actor Chandrakant Gokhale. In Indian cinema, his grandmother Kamlabai Gokhale was the first female child actor.

Vikram Gokhale began performing in Marathi theatre at a young age and, at the age of 26, made his film debut in Parwana, which starred Amitabh Bachchan.

After then, he appeared in a number of Marathi and Bollywood movies, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999 and Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan’s Agneepath in 1990. He kept working in Bollywood movies, including Mission Mangal, Bang Bang, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

Actor Akshay Kumar, who worked with Gokhale in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, paid his respects to Gokhale via Twitter.

Very sad to know of the demise of Vikram Gokhale ji. Worked with him in films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Mission Mangal, had so much to learn from him. Om Shanti 🙏 pic.twitter.com/WuA00a2bpO
