Hazaribag, Dec 5: A member of a team of Wildlife Institute of Dehradun on Sunday was caught by an elephant from its trunk and flung into air resulting in injuries.

The forest department officials denied this incident yesterday but it has been confirmed now that the injured person is Swastik Preetam (25), a resident of Delhi.

As per information, the four-member team which was carrying survey in Gangaahar forest of Chouparan expressed their desire to see the elephants and went inside the forest with the cattle guard Prabhu Ram.

On seeing the elephant, the group members went close to click a selfie. This angered the herd and one of them attacked them. The cattle guard and three others managed to run away but Swastik was caught by an elephant from its trunk and flung into air. He fell into bushes resulting in injuries in his right shoulder and hand.

After getting the information, the forestry team and police reached there and rescued them. The officials refused to provide details but said everyone was rescued on time. “One got injured but he is out of danger,” they added.
