Jhelum House wins ‘Best House’ on Annual Sports Day at DPS Ranchi

Ranchi, Dec 6: Delhi Public School, Ranchi on Tuesday organised its Annual Sports Day. Padma Bhushan V K Shunglu, Chairman, Delhi Public Society, New Delhi was present on the occasion as chief guest. Meanwhile, the Guest of Honour was Prawin Mala Hemrom CGM (P&A), SAIL UNITS Ranchi & Pro – Vice Chairperson, DPS Ranchi.

The students of Classes Nursery to XII participated in various sports events on the occasion. The programme began with the rendition of a welcome song by the school choir group followed by a speech by Principal Dr Ram Singh, who gave a glimpse of the achievements of the school.

A march past by the students of all six houses — Sutlej, Chenab, Jamuna, Jhelum, Ravi, and Ganga was presented in complete unison. The NCC Cadets also performed during the parade. The Head Boy of the School led the oath-taking ceremony in which all the students pledged to inculcate the sportsman spirit within them. It was followed by the declaration of the meet open and the lighting of the torch by the Chief Guest.

The School Band performed with their instruments followed by various dances and presentation of aerobics by the students of classes VI to XI and along with a display of yoga.

The track and field events including 100 mt, 200 mt, 800 mt and 3000 mt flat races, 4*100 mt relay along with high jumps, long jump, shotput etc were a part of the sports event. The primary wing students had activity races as well. The winners of the various achievements were awarded by the luminaries with medals, trophies and certificates.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Padma Bhushan V K Shunglu congratulated the participants on their enthusiastic display of talent and spirit of sportsmanship. He appreciated the competitive spirit instilled in the Dipsites and encouraged them to pursue their goals with grit, determination and perseverance. He also wished them luck in their upcoming endeavours.

The Guest of Honour Prawin Mala Hemrom was enthralled and appreciated the stupendous efforts of the students.

Principal Dr Ram Singh stated that Sports is a hands-on learning experience to prepare students for the competition of life and leads them on their path to holistic development. Sporting activities also build teamwork, punctuality, discipline and sportsmanship in an individual. He further motivated all the students to take part in sports enthusiastically.
