New Delhi, Dec 11: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will preside over a meeting on Monday afternoon to examine the necessary plans for managing the crowd at the Sabarimala shrine.

In the meantime, Monday’s booking for darshan broke all previous records. Since 1,07,260 worshippers have reserved time to visit Sabarimala on Monday, more preparations are being taken to handle the crowd.

This is the season’s highest order of business. Bookings have surpassed one lakh for the second time in this season. Due to the rise of Sabarimala pilgrims, police have set up special measures to manage the rush.

Devotees would be segregated and controlledly escorted from Pampa to Sannidhanam.

In the meantime, the Kerala High Court recommended extending the time for worship for devotees on busy days during a special session on Sunday, December 11. The district collector and police were also ordered by the court to take action to contain the throng.

The HC said that the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), in discussion with the tantri of Sabarimala, may want to think about keeping the sanctum sanctorum open for an additional half-hour or hour.

Increased foot traffic has led to problems with crowd control and traffic flow. The HC reported that on Saturday, around a lakh reservations were made via the virtual queue system, and roughly 90,000 worshippers attended.  A few policemen who were on duty also sustained injuries due to snags in crowd management, stated the HC.
