Ranchi, Dec.30: Police in the Jharkhand capital is still clueless about the leadership, origin and official location of the ‘Gulabo Gang’ which had clashed with residents of Delatoli in Kokar under Sadar police station after over 100 ladies associated with the gang attempted constructing boundary wall around a 90 decimal plot being claimed by Dhanbad based businessman Vishnu Agrawal.

S.P(rural) Nuashad Alam having additional charge of S.P(city) confirmed the situation saying ‘attempt is being made to know about the gang as this is for the first time the name of such a gang has surfaced in the Jharkhand capital.”

Though a police official said the gang is actually Nari Sena operational for a long time in the city for the cause of women and members are identified by their pink dress and stick in their hands, Nari Sena chief Rani Kumari denied the fact.

“We are not a gang. We are an organisation for the cause of women. Attempt to defame our organisation is going on for a long time after we marked our presence in the society by defending women suffering from any type of torture and atrocities. We are not involved in any type of illegal act,” Kumari said, washing her organisation’s hand off in the clash.

Divya Kumari, a resident of Dela Toli supported Kumari saying these ladies keep on sitting on disputed land and work at the behest of land grabbers. “Police should identify each of them and also identify the persons behind them. How come women be used in such a way,” she said, expressing her concern over yesterday’s incident.

Notably, the Gulabo Gang members and locality residents had clashed over the issue of taking possession of the disputed land. Locality residents were saying that land on which an attempt was made to construct a boundary wall is Sarna land, which is community land and one cannot claim right over it. Finally, the police had to recommend slapping section 144 of CrPC to maintain status on the disputed land though, according to circle officer of Bargain circle Manoj Kumar,  the land is Raiyati and 8 decimal land has been spared for Sarna Sthal.
