New Delhi, Dec 31: With licence restrictions relaxed, high-end hotels will now be able to keep their restaurants and bars open 24 hours a day. This is being seen by the authorities as a New Year’s gift to the hospitality sector.

Restaurants and bars are typically open 24 hours a day in four and five-star hotels. They are available 24 hours a day at the ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminus), the airport, and the railroad stations. The restaurants in three-star hotels can stay open until two in the morning, while the others can stay up until one.

The modifications were made in response to a panel’s report that Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena appointed in November in an effort to relax restaurant licence criteria. According to officials, applicants should be able to make use of the new licencing system starting on January 26.

The authorities have determined that 28 documents will no longer be necessary as part of efforts to streamline the licencing process, and applicants will receive their licences in 49 days instead. The Delhi Civic Body will award the licences for a period of three years, while the Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Service will grant them for a period of nine years. The Common Application Form was also reduced from 21 pages to just 9 pages by eliminating 140 fields.

Police verification will now be done online. Additionally, all agencies will now issue permits using the March 31 fiscal year-end.

According to officials, the action will secure business accessibility and strengthen the night economy.

Along with 359 applications for lodges, the authorities are currently processing nearly 4,500 requests for eateries for the years 2021 and 2022.
