Ramgarh, Jan 8: Martyrs Sheikh Bhikhari and Tikait Umrao Singh were remembered on their martyrdom day on Sunday. Giridih MP Chandra Prakash Chaudhary on the occasion said that the revolution of 1857 kindled the spark for freedom in the whole country.
The minister further added, “Even the hill-plateau of Chhotanagpur could not escape from this spark. Sheikh Bhikhari and Tikait Umrao Singh played an important role in this revolution.”
He said that their martyrdom made their ideals, struggle and sacrifice memorable. The life stories of those who sacrificed their lives for Indian independence give the youth at present the energy to struggle and emerge victorious.
City Council President Yugesh Bedia, Vice President Manoj Kumar Mahto along with the MP reached the ancient banyan tree, where the two heroes gave their lives at Chutupalu and paid floral tributes to Bhikhari and Umrao.
Dilip Dangi, Lalbihari Mahato, Bablu Karmali, Devdhari Mahato, Abhimanyu Kushwaha, Dinesh Kushwaha, Mahesh Karmali, Rajesh Mahato, Dia Mahto, Jhagru Mahato, Prashant Mahato, Anil Patel, Arun Agarwal, Neeraj Mandal, Kuldeep Verma, Deepu Gupta among others were present.
