Ranchi, Jan 9: Robbers looted Rs five lakh from a woman outside the State Bank of India Namkum branch in broad daylight on Monday. The bike-borne criminals snatched a bag from the lady, Geeta Devi, as soon as she came out of the bank.

“It appears that criminals had proper information regarding the movement of the lady as they struck her as soon as she came outside the bank,” a local resident said.

SP (rural) Naushad Alam confirmed the incident saying a probe has been started.

Asked why the lady was carrying Rs five lakh cash in the era of online transactions, SP Alam said, “Primary probe suggested that she required the cash to deal in land. However, any conclusive statement in this regard can be given only after the probe gets completed. The lady was so nervous after the incident that I did not think it proper to ask many questions from her and wait for her family members.”

A police official said the help of CCTV footage is being taken to identify the miscreant.
