Ramgarh, Jan 9: The Ramgarh Sub-Divisional Officer Mohammad Javed Hussain on Monday chaired a meeting regarding manual scavenging in the Collectorate’s Ramgarh meeting hall.
Initially, the SDO informed of his desire to protect manual scavengers from social discrimination because of cleaning or carrying human wastes and diseases caused by these activities. He further informed of the Government of India’s Manual Scavengers Act 2013, the violation of which, allows a provision of one-year imprisonment or a fine of Rs 50,000 or both under section 8.
The SDO directed the concerned officials to make all the cleaning workers aware of all issues related to manual scavenging by setting up a camp. Along with this, he instructed Labor Superintendent Ramgarh to conduct an investigation campaign in all the factories of the district and take action against the users of dry septic tanks, as per the rules.
During the meeting, the SDO appealed that any person or organisation that uses a dry septic tank should convert their septic tank into a sanitary tank within six months. At the same time, he directed everyone to get their sewerage and septic tanks cleaned by contacting the city council or the cantonment council instead of manual scavenging and to get the cleaning done through the tanker provided.
Executive Officer Cantonment Board Ramgarh, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramgarh, Labor Superintendent Ramgarh, District Welfare Officer Ramgarh, Executive Magistrate cum Incharge Establishment Branch Ramgarh, District Lead Bank Manager Ramgarh and others were present during the meeting.
