New Delhi, Jan 10: Joshimath will soon begin razing homes and other structures at risk of collapsing. The drive to remove the dangerous structures would be supervised by scientists, according to a directive from the chief secretary, SS Sandu.
Joshimath is unquestionably bound for disaster as more homes have started to develop cracks, causing families to flee the warmth of their homes in this bitterly cold winter and move into makeshift shelters erected by the government.
In addition to Joshimath’s ground subsidence problem, several of the homes in Karnaprayag Municipality’s Bahuguna Nagar have cracks, according to news agency ANI.
The number of properties impacted by subsidence increased to 678, and 27 additional families were evacuated to safety, according to a statement from the Chamoli Disaster Management Authority. It also stated that 82 families had so far been relocated to safe areas in the town. Earlier, there were just over 600 homes that were impacted by subsidence.
Over 200 homes in the sinking town have had red cross marks placed on them by the district government because they are unsafe to live in. It instructed its occupants to move into temporary relief centres or to rented housing, for which each family will receive aid from the Chief Minister’s relief fund of Rs 4,000 per month for the following six months.
