Dhanbad, Jan 10: The firing on the residence of Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited (HURL) Sindri project human resources (HR) head Vikrant Kumar on Monday night has sent shockwaves across the city.

According to police officials, around 7 pm on Monday, two bike-borne criminals fired four rounds on the house of Vikrant Kumar who is based in Sindri, Rohrabandh.

At the time of the incident, Kumar was in the office while his wife and children were warming in a bonfire on the veranda. Kumar told police that criminals called him from the gate and opened fire.

Having heard the firing sound, his wife closed herself in a room with children and informed him and the police immediately.

The Sindri police station officer in charge Suresh Prasad reached the house of  Vikrant Kumar and recovered three empty cartridges.

Sindri police station officer-in-charge Suresh Prasad told media persons that three empty and one live cartridge were recovered from the spot.

“Investigation is on and criminals would be nabbed soon,” he said.

Moreover, the All India FCI VSS Employees Association expressed concern over the firing incident and demanded foolproof security protection for the project.

The Association’s president Sewa Singh said that this is not a new incident in HURL. Nine months ago, criminals on 15 to 20 bikes attacked workers of HURL.

“Association had written district administration and  Director General of Police (DGP) for providing protection to HURL but so far no step has been initiated. This has resulted in anti-industry elements of the region have encouraged to damage it in different ways,” said Sewa Singh.

HURL Sindri is the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which has a production capacity of 11.75 lakh metric tons of urea per year.

The production in the HURL Sindri unit restarted on Sunday (January 8) night after 54 days of shutdown. Due to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha union’s agitation, production was shut down on November 14. The management restarted production on Sunday night.
