New Delhi, Jan 11: A significant computer outage has reportedly interrupted about 1000 flights across the United States, leaving passengers stranded both inside and outside the nation. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that ‘all flights are unable to be released at this time’ due to an outage that is impacting the update of the Notice to Air Missions system (NOTAMs).
The regulator’s website said Thursday evening that the FAA system that warns pilots and other flight personnel of dangers or any changes to airport facility services and pertinent procedures was not processing updated information.

According to flight tracking website FlightAware, over 1,200 flights inside, into, or out of the United States were delayed today. If the outage was the only cause, that was not immediately apparent.
The FAA is attempting to fix the problem, according to Los Angeles International Airport, or LAX, which also advises travellers to check the status of their flights.
“The FAA is working to resolve a national systems issue that is impacting flights early this morning. Please check your flight status and we will share updates as the FAA provides them,” Los Angeles airport tweeted.
