New Delhi, Jan 15: India will play England in their second game in the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 on Sunday at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, Rourkela. With a decisive 2-0 victory over Spain on Friday, the Harmanpreet Singh-led hosts got their campaign off. Team India had many chances to score during the game, but they were only able to do so twice. The team’s goal scorers were midfielder Hardik Singh and vice captain Amit Rohidas.
Given that India’s opponents are now ranked No. 6 and the Indian team is No. 5 in the globe, the match versus England is predicted to be a heated one between the two teams. The English team, which is being guided by David Ames, thrashed Wales 5-0 in the tournament’s opening game.

However, Team India will aim to strengthen their chances of making it to the quarterfinals with a victory. The team led by Graham Reid is aiming to win their second world championship after doing so 48 years ago in 1975.
The two teams faced off against one another three times in the previous season. Their most recent match which took place at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, ended in a 4-4 draw. In the first leg of the FIH Pro League, which was played in April, the teams battled to a 3-3 tie before India won the second leg 4-3.
