Ranchi, Jan. 17: The MoU signed on Monday between the Jharkhand Police and four renowned academic institutions running in the state will pave the path for better policing in the state by establishing a formal basis of collaboration.

A.V.Homkar, I.G (operation) and state police spokesperson, today shared the benefits of the MoU with lagatar24.com, saying that aside from academic institutions involved in the MoU and the Jharkhand police, common people will benefit from this first-of-its-kind exercise as police processes will become more efficient and convenient through the use of cutting-edge technology and management solutions.

Jharkhand has inked an MoU with four prestigious institutes, namely IIM Ranchi, BIT Mesra, XLRI Jamshedpur, and NIT Jamshedpur. While XLRI and IIM will help improve police management, BIT and NIT will help strengthen and develop the police’s technological personnel, he added.

The agreement is valid for five years. Every year, it will be evaluated. It would facilitate police collaboration with technical institutes and provide a way for police personnel to connect with management and technical experts linked with the institutions. It will also aid in the realm of policing, research and training.

According to Homkar, technical expertise has become increasingly important as technology has advanced. “This MoU will aid in the improvement and development of custom-made software solutions used in law enforcement. These institutes will also aid in the control of cybercrime and the improvement of investigation through the use of information technology. Police will have a better understanding of how to handle cases involving cryptocurrency and the usage of drone technology and Machine Learning-based data analytics,” he added.

“In exchange, institutions will gain the opportunity to apply their knowledge in the real world and test their technological talents in police processes to meet complex social situations. Aside from that, students who come from these schools for internships in police organisations will be given sufficient exposure and recognition, giving them a competitive advantage in their professional lives in the long run,” he added.

The IG said the management institutes will assist the police in determining proper man management and in determining which areas demand more attention for the benefit of the general public.
