Dhanbad: IIT ISM signs MoU with HCL Tech for digital solutions

Dhanbad, Jan 27: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad has signed an MoU with HCL Tech for digital solutions in the field of exploration, drilling and production of hydrocarbons.

Under the MoU, IIT students would get an opportunity to undertake project works and internships in HCL Tech to research in the field of petroleum engineering and earth sciences and develop a mutually beneficial knowledge management system.

 Director of IIT ISM Prof Rajiv Shekhar said that MoU with HCL Tech is a path-breaking initiative. Such collaborative efforts will be instrumental in advancing research and innovation in technology, besides creating a skilled workforce. Joint activities in research and knowledge development have tremendous potential for creating economic and social impact on society.

The director said the strategic collaboration intends to offer significant value to both organisations. Institution’s students and research scholars will undertake sustainability initiatives and programs, including discussions, podcasts and joint presentations at international forums on transformative initiatives in the oil and gas sector.

Dr Sagar Pal, Dean (R&D) of IIT ISM, supervised the MoU signed by Somnath Das and Deepak Bhardwaj-directors – Oil and Gas, HCL Tech.

Dr Pal said the partnership has been formalized as part of the institute’s effort to engage with industry more vigorously in order to provide exposure to the students to industrial problems and workout solutions.

“We are delighted to establish this relationship with HCLTech to strengthen our Institute-Industry collaborations. Through this joint collaboration, we look forward to leveraging the latest technological advancements to groom our students and work towards the development of sustainable energy and innovation for a safer future,” said Prof Sagar Pal, dean (R&D), IIT ISM.

Ajay Bahl, the corporate vice president, of HCL Tech, said that this strategic initiative will help the oil and gas industry generate enhanced value from data and introduce cutting-edge, low-carbon sustainability solutions. “ We look forward to enhancing our commitment to the growth and development of our future technology leaders through this collaboration,” he said.
