New Delhi, Jan 29: Novak Djokovic beat Stefanos Tsitsipas Sunday to claim a 10th Australian Open title. The Serb made history by becoming the first person to win the Australian Open title 10 times in his career, 15 years after taking home his first victory at Melbourne Park.
The fourth seed, Novak Djokovic, finished an incredible tennis fortnight in Melbourne by winning his 22nd Grand Slam match, tying Rafael Nadal’s record for the most major titles won in men’s singles tennis.
The first person to win 20 Grand Slam tournaments, Roger Federer, retired last year, while Rafael Nadal is battling injury problems, which were clear in his loss in the second round of the Melbourne Cup. Djokovic, who appears to be maturing like good wine, is still looking for more, though.
Additionally, Djokovic became just the second person, following Rafael Nadal (14 at the French Open), to win at least 10 titles at a single Grand Slam event.
Djokovic extended his winning streak at Melbourne Park to 28 as he continued his unblemished record at the Australian Open finals. Djokovic will receive a return to the top rank in the ATP Rankings on Monday as compensation for his incredible performance in Melbourne.
