New Delhi, Feb 5: China criticised the United States for ‘obviously overreacting’ and ‘seriously breaking international practise’ by ordering the Pentagon to take down a suspected Chinese spy balloon that was detected flying over North America. China also threatened sanctions.

“China expresses strong dissatisfaction and protests against the use of force by the United States to attack the unmanned civilian airship,” Beijing’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

He also added that it would ‘reserve the right to make further necessary responses.’

In keeping with President Joe Biden’s promise to take care of the alleged surveillance gadget, the United States shot down a Chinese spy balloon off the coast of Carolina on Saturday, according to the Associated Press. After flying over key military locations across North America, the balloon was shot down. It had become the most recent source of friction between Washington and Beijing.

The balloon, which was estimated to be about the size of three school buses and had been flying at a height of around 60,000 feet, contained debris that was being recovered in US territorial seas in the Atlantic Ocean.

“We successfully took it down, and I want to compliment our aviators who did it,” President Joe Biden was quoted by Reuters as saying.
