Daltonganj, Feb 10: Two colleges in Latehar are scheduled to be inaugurated by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on February 14 during his excursion, 1932 ‘Khatiyan Johar Yatra’. However, there is still uncertainty over the status of the inauguration of the two colleges.

Speaking to Lagatar correspondent, Latehar JMM MLA Baidyanath Ram on Friday said, “CM Hemant Soren will inaugurate the two colleges, Mahila college and Degree college on February 14 during his 1932 Khatiyan Johar Yatra in Latehar.”

“It will be a great day for the public of Latehar district to see two colleges ready to impart teaching,” Ram added.

He also said that the two colleges were unsettled for the students of the tribal district for a very long time.

“When I was the minister for higher education, I had laid the foundation stone for the degree college at Guwa village and now Mahila college is to be established,” said MLA Ram.

When pointed out to the MLA that the two colleges have not yet been handed over to the Nilamber Pitamber University by the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Ltd, MLA Baidyanath Ram replied that the concerned corporation will be asked to do it.

Adding to that, he said, “We are ready to get these two colleges inaugurated by Chief Minister Hemant Soren by all means.”

On the other hand, the registrar of NPU, Dr Rakesh Kumar on Friday said, “We have no information so far about the inauguration of these two colleges in Latehar. All that I can say as registrar of this university is that these two colleges are yet to be handed over to the university by the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Ltd.”

Adding to this, the University’s convener of the college development council Dr AK Pandey said, “It is very true that these two colleges are yet to be handed over to the university. There is also the issue of the boundary wall of the degree college at Guwa.”

Earlier, the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Ltd (JSBCL) asked the NPU to take over the Degree college at Guwa but it was declined as the issue of its boundary wall continues to be hanging fire to date.

Dr Pandey further added, “The degree college at Guwa has to date no sanctioned posts of teaching or non-teaching staff due to the fact that Degree college is yet to come under the university officially.”

About Mahila college in Latehar, the NPU official Dr Pandey said, “There are some works that are unfinished in the college. It is yet to be handed over to us by the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Ltd. However, the state government has sanctioned 27 posts for the Mahila college. The state cabinet had approved the sanctioning for the posts of teaching and non-teaching staff way back in 2017.”

Among the 27 posts sanctioned for the Mahila college, 14 posts are for teaching staff including the post of principal whereas 13 posts are for the non-teaching staff which include accountant, assistant librarian, lab assistant, clerk, computer operator, store clerk and fourth-grade staff.

The subjects approved by the State Government to be taught in the Mahila college are Hindi, English, History, Political Science, Geography and Commerce. Two vocational courses including media and communication technology, office management and IT have also been approved.
