New Delhi, Feb 15: The Delhi Police arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly killing his live-in partner with a data cable in a car and stuffing her body in a refrigerator at a dhaba on the outskirts of Mitraon village in Najafgarh. The incident is said to have taken place on February 10.
According to sources, they said the man had committed the crime because the woman, who had been living with him for the last five years, was pressuring him to marry her, but his family had found him another match.
The deceased woman has been identified as Nikki Yadav, strangulated to death by her boyfriend, Sahil Gehlot (24), near Kashmiri Gate ISBT on the intervening night of February 9 and 10.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Vikram Singh said the crime came to light on Tuesday morning when they received a tip-off that something was amiss with Sahil Gehlot (24), the owner of a roadside eatery and that his girlfriend Nikki Yadav (22) had been missing since his wedding last week.
According to the preliminary investigation by police, it has revealed that Gahlot was getting married on February 10 and the woman was objecting to it as they were in a relationship for a long time, Singh said.
Special commissioner of police (crime) Ravindra Yadav said, Sahil and Nikki were in a relationship. Sahil, a resident of Mitraon village, met Nikki, a resident of Haryana’s Jhajjar, in 2018 while they were preparing for competitive exams in the Uttam Nagar area. They later took admission to the same college in Greater Noida.
The couple started living together in Greater Noida in a rented house. During the Covid lockdown, they returned to their respective homes and after the end of the lockdown, they again started living together in a rented house in the Dwarka area. the accused had not informed his family members about his relationship. Sahil’s family was pressurising him to get married to some other woman so he got engaged to a woman of his family’s choice on February 9 and was about to marry the next date on February 10. When Nikki got to know about it, she confronted Sahil and an argument started between the duo.
Thereafter, Sahil strangulated Nikki with the help of a data cable of his mobile phone kept in his car and he went to the dhaba owned by him and put her dead body in a refrigerator. He then went to his home and formalize his marriage to another woman.
However, Police reached the location and recovered the body. Accused Sahil Gahlot, has been apprehended. Further legal action is being carried out.
