New Delhi, Feb 15: For the second Test against Australia, which begins on Friday, February 17, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Shreyas Iyer is set to join the Indian Test team.
Due to a back injury, the right-handed hitter was unable to play in the opening Test at Nagpur’s VCA Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav received his first Test cap in his place. Iyer ‘successfully finished his rehab’ at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, and the BCCI medical panel has now given the player the all-clear to play.
If Iyer is selected for the starting lineup, one of Suryakumar or KS Bharat must step aside. KL Rahul is most likely to don the keeping gloves in that situation if Bharat is benched.
India performed admirably in the first Test in Nagpur, winning by an enormous margin of an innings and 132 runs. They then gained an important 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
As a result of his 70 runs scored and seven wickets taken, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings, Ravindra Jadeja was named Player of the Match. In addition, Rohit Sharma performed a captain’s knock, hitting 120 runs in India’s first innings, becoming the fastest Indian to 450 Test wickets.
India’s squad for the second Test:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohamed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Suryakumar Yadav
