Jharkhand HC dismisses PIL demanding closure of rooftop bars

Ranchi, Feb 17: The Jharkhand High Court today dismissed PIL demanding closure of rooftop bars and lounges running in the state.

A division bench headed by acting chief justice Apresh Kumar Singh passed the order after hearing arguments on behalf of the state and petitioner.

It was said on behalf of petition Sunil Singh that alcohol and hookah are being served to youth below 25 and due to this business future of the youths is at stake. State during its argument expressed ignorance about the situation saying that the petitioner did not submit any proof supporting the observation.

Those who were made a party in the PIL included excised department director besides the director general of police (DGP), senior superintendent of police (SSP), and several zonal officers.

Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan and Advocate Piyush Chitresh presented the arguments on behalf of the State Government. On the other hand, advocate Naveen Kumar presented his side in court on behalf of the applicant.
