Jharkhand woman lands in jail for smoking in Indigo flight

Ranchi, Feb 18: The Jharkhand police sent a 29-yr old arts post graduate woman Aishwarya Rai to jail for smoking in washroom of Mumbai-Ranchi Indigo flight in air.

She was handed over to police at Birsa Munda Airport at Thursday night and sent to jail on Friday evening after legal formalities.

She was caught red handed when fire alarm of the aeroplane sounded detecting smoke. Rai told the police that she was a blogger and had smoked to make video and upload in her social media accounts as a matter of her hobby.

The woman is a resident of Sakchi in steel city Jamshedpur. Her father Tridev Rai was a doctor and her brother is engineer by profession.

Officer in charge of Airport police station Anand Kumar confirmed the action saying that over 150 passengers were boarding on the aeroplane when the woman committed the crime for thrill.

“Her act was life threatening. There is provision of life imprisonment for the act,” OC Kumar said.
