Jamshedpur, Feb 21: The racket of selling lottery tickets online has reached Haldipokhar close to the steel city from where police arrested two lottery agents on Tuesday.

Those arrested were identified as Sheikh Ehsaan and Abhinab Kundu, both residents of Haldipokhar under the Kowali thana area and Mosabani respectively.

Acting on a tip-off that a man was indulged in running the racket of selling lottery tickets from his paan shop, a team of Mosabani thana raided the shop and nabbed Kundu with a smartphone having records of online lottery tickets sale he had made. The police also recovered Rs 14,000 as sale proceeds from the possession of Kundu.

Later on, being interrogated, Kundu divulged that another identified as Sheikh Ehsaan would also run the online lottery sale racket at Haldipokhar about 20 km away from Mosabani.

On the basis of the information, the police searched for Ehsaan and finally got him while busy selling the online lottery tickets from his motor garage at Haldipokhar today.

The police seized two smartphones from the possession of Ehsaan while arresting him.

The sale of lottery tickets is banned in Jharkhand, but it is legal in adjoining Bengal. Some racketeers had started selling lottery tickets in Baharagora in the Ghatsila sub-division close to Bengal a couple of months ago, but now the racket continues to spread to other localities under the same sub-division despite constant action by the police.
