Jamshedpur, Feb 23: A pair of lovers had attempted to commit suicide on the railway track between the Tata-Ghatsila section, but were saved by some locals minutes before a speeding train passed through the stretch.
The sensational phenomenon happened along Chandrarekha village under the Galudih thana area in the Ghatsila sub-division about 40 km away from Jamshedpur on Wednesday evening.
At about 7 pm yesterday, some residents of Chandrarekha village spotted two persons lying on the railway track that passes near the village. On going over to the spot, the villagers found those lying on the track were a youth and a girl. It took no time for the inquisitive villagers to understand that the young couple wanted to commit suicide together and subsequently, they dragged the two away from the track immediately.
A minute later a speeding whizzed past the stretch, giving much relief to the rescuers. But the frustrated lovebirds who were set upon ending their lives tried to get rid of the villagers who somehow pacified the duo before handing them over to Galudih thana.
The girl was a resident of Baliguma in the MGM thana area and the youth was from Dhatkidih village in Galudih. The police counselled both the girl as well as the youth at the police station and finally dropped the girl at her house in Baliguma late in the night.
While responding to the queries by the police, the two revealed that they had met during a Santhali drama staged somewhere in Ghatsila five months before the love blossomed between them. Soon they came closer but the relationship turned sour in course of time, leading both of them to decide for taking a drastic step.
