Daltonganj, Feb. 28: Altogether 415 students have so far submitted applications for the PhD entrance test to be conducted by Nilamber Pitamber University.
February 28 is the last date for applying for the PhD entrance test.
Stating this, the nodal officer for PhD entrance test, Dr R K Jha, said: “Out of the 415 applications received till February 27, 385 applications have been submitted by the applicants in person while 30 applications for the PhD entrance test reached the office of the university by India post etc.” Some of the applications have come from West Bengal too, he said, adding the participation of locals is modest.
The NPU’s geography department is very popular with students of West Bengal and most of the applications for this subject are from West Bengal.
English is another subject wherein 20 applications have come so far, added Jha, expressing hope that since its last date today there may be the last minute rush to file applications for the PhD entrance test.
The PhD entrance written examination will be of only 2 hours duration and it will be held on its scheduled date March 22.
The written examination will be of 100 marks, 50 out of 100 will be subject based while remaining 50 will be about the research methodology.
Dr Jha further said: “There will be an OMR sheet for the written examination. Manual evaluation will not be done. The computer will do the job.”
Pro vice chancellor Dr Deepnarayan Yadav said: “Vice Chancellor Dr Ram Lakhan Singh wanted questions for the PhD entrance test to be set from outside the university and so it was done accordingly. It was all for the purpose of the sanctity of the examination.”
The nodal officer made it clear that there is no negative marking for any wrong answer.
About obtaining admit cards the nodal officer said, “It can be had from the counter at the GLA college as well as candidates can download it as per their convenience. Admit cards will be in the pipeline after March 15.”
About the centre of the written examination Dr Jha said “It is yet to be decided as on March 22 which is the PhD written examination day, the NPU has on the same day university examination of the old bachelor courses. We are exploring the centre of the PhD entrance written examination. The name and address of the examination centre will be clearly marked and announced well ahead of the examination date.”
Sources said the centre of the PhD written examination is most expected to be the GLA college Daltonganj but its official confirmation is awaited.
Again, a decision on the timing of this written examination either in the first half or second half of March 22 will be taken in consultation with VC Dr Ram Lakhan Singh, said the nodal officer.
