Gold bars worth Rs 2 Crore recovered from aircraft’s toilet at Delhi airport

New Delhi, March 5: At Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Sunday, customs authorities discovered four gold bars worth around Rs. 2 crore hidden in the lavatory of an international flight.

Authorities claimed that an aeroplane used for an international flight was rummaged after finishing its subsequent domestic journeys at Terminal 2 of IGI, New Delhi, based on information gathered and subsequently developed by customs officers at IGI Airport.

The customs agents discovered a grey pouch attached with adhesive tape behind the sink in the lavatory while searching the plane. The four rectangular gold bars totaling about 3969 grammes were contained in the grey pouch.

An official announcement stated that the approximate price for the rectangular gold bars is $1,95,72,400.
Further investigation is ongoing, and the recovered gold together with its packaging materials have been seized in accordance with Section 110 of the 1962 Customs Act.
