Dhanbad, Mar 6: Dhanbad’s Sanjay Sharma and Ravi Sharma bagged the singles title in their respective event of the Jharkhand State Veteran badminton championship which concluded at Gumla on Sunday evening.
Notably, Sanjay Sharma won double crowns in the championship. He bagged the singles title in the over-55 years age event and later paired with Shankar Ram of Gumla to clinch the doubles title.
In the singles final, Sanjay Sharma defeated Satyenanad of Latehar 21-15, 21-18 while in doubles he beat Heera Soni and Anil Kumar Sahu pair of Gumla 21-16, 21-19.
Last month, Sanjay Sharma bagged a bronze medal in the All India Civil Services Badminton Championship at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Ravi Sharma emerged as champion in the above 40 years age event defeating Amlan Swain of West Singhbhum 21-10, 21-10. However, in the doubles final his pair with Amarjit Kumar lost to Amlan Swain and Jitendra Sharma (East Singhbhum).
Jitendra Sharma also won the singles title in the above 50 years age event defeating Tauquir Usmani of Simdega in the final.
Earlier, Sanju Kumar of Ranchi also won double crowns. In the above 35 years age group event, Sanju defeated Tabrez of Gumla in the singles event final and later paired up with Mohsin of Ranchi to beat the Gumla pair of Tabrez and Manoj Gupta in the doubles final.
In the Women’s above 40 years event, Dhanbad’s Preeti Singh won the single title defeating Umar Rani Palit. In the above 45 years men’s event Pawan Kumar of Gumla defeated Manoj Kumar of his own district in the final. In the doubles event, Pawan and Mohan Oraon pair beat Dhanbad’s Rati Mohan Sharma and his partner.
In the above 50-year doubles event, the Jamshedpur pair of Rajesh Kumar Choudhary and Vivek Kumar Sharma bagged the title defeating the Gumla pair of Bijay Sinha and Pramod Gupta in the final.
Ranchi’s Manas Moitra won the singles title in above 60 years defeating J Kujur of Gumla. Besides it, RK Jena of Ranchi (in 65+) and Janak Das Sona ( 70+) and NK Singh of Dhanbad ( 75+) emerged champions.
Joint commissioner Mithilesh Kumar and the All Indian Badminton Association (AIBA) joint secretary cum secretary of Jharkhand Badminton Association K Prabhakar Rao present the trophy to the winners and runners of the championship. The winners will represent Jharkhand in the national veteran tournament to be held in Goa.
