Ace golfer felicitated by Rotary Club of Jamshedpur on Women’s Day

Jamshedpur, March 10: Jamshedpur golfer Alka Garg was felicitated by Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City for her achievements in golf.  On the occasion of International Women’s Day, she was felicitated by the club.

Garg has been playing golf for the last 14 years. She started early in 2008 and within one year she became the first lady golfer who became golfer of the year in just one year. Today she is playing at single digit i.e to handicap 8 at Golmuri and 9 at Beldih.

She has bagged many golf prizes. Her first win was the Sonnet Cup in 2008. Captain Cup Runners up in 2009, FleetGuard Winner in 2009, Tata Hitachi winner 2009 Golfer of the year 4 times since she started golf. She has won Sojitz , Nora Haley , Jamshedpur Challenge, Beldih Trophy , Captains Cupand the very prestigious Pervez Mehta while in 2023 Runners up Bhushan Raina Memorial Trophy and Jubilee Golf Best Gross 0-22.

Her journey continues. She has played many different courses and has always brought laurels for Jamshedpur Golf. To name some Kolkata, Delhi, Patna, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Kashmir, Bangkok, Pattaya are some of the courses.

Thanks to Alka Garg, several women in the city have taken up golf with unexpected fervour. And with city golf courses opening doors of opportunity for use of the greens, the game is accessible to far more now than ever.

“Golf is a passion for me. The game has not only helped me showcase my talent but has also taught me lessons in discipline and patience,” said an elated Alka. Few ladies would have said that a decade ago. Today, they take days off from work just to attend practice sessions.
