XISS organises a two-day workshop on Labour Laws

Ranchi, March 12: Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi and its Human Resource Management (HRM) Programme organised a workshop on Labour Laws on March 11 and 12.

Amitabh Adhikary, CHRO, Rattan India Enterprise Limited and an alumnus of XISS was the facilitator of the workshop. Dr Shyamal Gomes, Head of Programme(HoP), HRM Programme introduced the resource person to the students. Dr Sunil Singh, a resource person graced the workshop virtually and addressed everyone.

In his address, Dr Gomes welcomed everyone to the workshop where he emphasised on the importance of labour laws in the curriculum and stated that managing HR, keeping sound Industrial Relations (IR) knowledge, and creating a happy work environment are major challenges in every corporate today.

Amitabh Adhikary addressed the students and said, “Best lawyers do not mug up the bare acts, they understand the framework. Knowing all of this and you will be at ease.” He also mentioned that one must be able to sell their skills.

The workshop was very insightful and comprised of interactive video lectures, presentations, role plays and practical, real-life business scenarios, and case studies shared by the resource person. The workshop was focused on the 4 labour codes, recent amendments and real-life examples presented as case studies to enhance the learning experience of the learners and for their easy understanding. The recent trends in HR like Moonlighting were discussed in detail. The sessions became even more interesting with the facilitator’s sharing his life experiences.

Earlier, Fr ClaberMinz, Finance Officer, XISS welcomed Adhikary and felicitated him. Fr Xavier Soreng SJ, Superior, XISS, Fr Binod Toppo, Vice Principal, St John’s High School, and Dr Johnson Minz, Assistant Professor, XISS were also present during the workshop.

Dr Gomes, HoP, HRM Programme proposed the Vote of Thanks and thanked XISS Management, Staff, Faculty, and Students for their efforts and cooperation. The workshop concluded on a musical note by a special performance by the students.
