Ramgarh, March 14: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge First Shesh Nath Singh has convicted the accused in a shooting and murder of three people of a family in the Barkakana area of ??Ramgarh district on August 17, 2019.

Notably, the court has convicted Pawan Kumar Singh, a dismissed jawan, originally a resident of the Arrah district of Bihar, under sections 302, 307, and 27 Arms Act of IPC.  Along with this, the date for a hearing on the point of punishment has been set for March 16, 2023.

After being convicted on Monday, he was sent to Ramgarh sub-jail under tight security. On behalf of the prosecution in the court, the in-charge prosecutor RB Rai had recorded the statements of 16 witnesses before the court.

Sanjay Ram and his younger sister Suman Kumari, who was injured in the incident, along with DSP Sanjeev Kumar Besra, the investigation officer of the case, and the doctor who conducted the post-mortem and was treating the injured girl, had recorded their statement in the court.

Pawan had killed railway worker Ashok Ram, his wife Leela Devi and his elder daughter Meena Devi by firing indiscriminately from his official 9MM pistol. After committing the incident, he fled. He was later arrested on March 22, 2020, from Karath village in the Arrah district of Bihar.

At around eight o’clock on the night of August 17, 2019, the jawan reached the house of Ashok Ram, who worked as a railway porter in Barkakana Railway Colony and sold milk. Pawan was there to get some milk. It is said that he was intoxicated during the execution of the incident.

During this, as soon as the people of the house refused to sell milk, Pawan shot at Ashok Ram, his wife Leela Devi and his daughter Varsha Devi in anger, while younger son Sanjay Ram and another daughter Suman Kumar were injured. It is said that Suman is still undergoing treatment and is under the supervision of doctors. Sanjay Ram, who was injured in this incident, had filed a statement before the GRP Inspector on the day of the incident.
