On August 17, 2019, in Barkakana, Ramgarh, at around eight o’clock in the night, the accused jawan, reached the house of Ashok Ram, at that time Pawan, working in Barkakana RPF, to collect milk. He shot five members of a family indiscriminately using his service pistol. Three people died instantly, while two others suffered significant injuries. One of the three victims, Varsha Devi, aka Meena Devi, was expecting a child.

After committing the crime, he fled away from the scene of the incident. He was later arrested by the police on 22 March 2020 from Karath village in the Arrah district of Bihar.

On behalf of the prosecution in the court, in-charge prosecutor RB Rai had recorded the statements of 16 witnesses before the court and demanded severe punishment from the court.
