New Delhi, March 23: Ajay Banga, a former Mastercard CEO and US contender for the position of World Bank president, is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi after his arrival on Thursday.

The ‘global listening tour’ that Ajay Banga undertook to solicit support and address World Bank concerns would come to a conclusion with his visit to India.

Ajay Banga will meet with Prime Minister Modi, S. Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi on March 23 and 24, according to the US Treasury, to talk about India’s development goals, the World Bank, and issues with global economic development.

Soon after the Indian-origin corporate executive’s nomination for the position of President of the World Bank was made public in February, the Union government supported his bid.

Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Bangladesh, Colombia, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea are among the nations that have previously endorsed Banga’s candidature.

Ajay Banga has no opponents as of yet, according to a Reuters report, although nominations for the position of World Bank president are still being accepted from other states through March 29.

US President Joseph Biden proposed Banga, age 63, to succeed David Malpass, who resigned following months of controversy over his initial refusal to declare his support for the scientific consensus on climate change.
