New Delhi, March 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed on Wednesday that the CBI was putting pressure on him to ‘frame’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an alleged fake encounter case in Gujarat, while he was being questioned by the investigation agency under the Congress-led UPA government.

In answer to a query on the opposition’s claim that the Narendra Modi administration is ‘misusing’ governmental agencies to target them, Shah made this statement during a programme.

“The CBI was putting pressure on me to frame Modi ji (when he was Gujarat CM) in an alleged fake encounter case during the Congress government,” he said.

Despite this, the BJP never caused a stir. About Rahul Gandhi being found guilty of criminal defamation by a Surat court, the home minister stated that the Congressman was not the only politician to be found guilty and expelled from the assembly.

He claimed that Rahul Gandhi has been making noise and blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his misfortune rather than seeking a higher court.

Rahul Gandhi should take his case in a higher court, according to Shah, rather than attempting to place the responsibility on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that while convictions cannot be delayed, the House is misinforming the public. If the court so determines, the penalty can be suspended, he added.

“He has not appealed to take stay on his conviction. What kind of arrogance is this? You want a favour. You want to continue to be MP and will also not go before the Court,” Shah said.  Where does such arrogance gets generated, he asked.

Under the UPA government, a 2013 Supreme Court judgement said that an elected representative would lose his position immediately following conviction. According to Mr. Shah, 17 notable figures, including Lalu Prasad, J. Jayalalitha, and Raashid Alvi, have lost their membership as a result. Yet, he said that no one objected to wearing black clothing since it is the “law of the country.”

“Listen to the full speech of Rahul Gandhi, he has not only spoken abusive words for Modi ji, he has spoken abusive words for the entire Modi community and OBC society,” he said.

“The law of the land is clear. There is no question of vendetta politics. It is the judgment of the Supreme Court of India, which had come during their government,” he added.

When Shah was questioned about the notice requiring him to leave his home, he questioned why there should be a “special favour” given the Supreme Court had instructed him to comply as soon as the conviction takes effect.
