Outside the Patiala Jail, a number of Congress officials and fans came to give the 59-year-old former cricketer a hearty greeting after his release. They yelled “Navjot Sidhu zindabad” while carrying dhols.
His fans waiting outside the jail have also organised “Dhol” players to greet the former cricketer-turned-politician. Outside the jail, Navjot Sidhu’s admirers and friends excitedly awaited his arrival to give him a warm greeting.
The former state Congress leader was imprisoned on May 20 of last year after being given a one-year severe prison term by the Supreme Court for the 1988 road rage killing of Gurnam Singh, 65, who was sentenced to death. According to his lawyer, Navjot Sidhu’s early release is the result of his following the laws and maintaining good behaviour while inside.
