Howrah, April 2: Sukanta Majumder, the head of the BJP in Bengal, defied police instructions and arrived in Howrah’s Shibpur on Sunday to meet with locals at the Panchsheel flat, where damage was reported during a Ram Navami parade. However Majumder’s access to the location was denied.

On Thursday, fighting broke out between two groups during a Ram Navami parade in Howrah, West Bengal.

“If the police stop us, will set what can be done. We have no faith in the investigation by CID. We want central agencies to investigate. Everyone knows illegal activities happen at the house from where stones were pelted. Did CID visit that house?” said the Bengal BJP chief.

Central govt and State govt should talk about the deployment of CAPFs here. There should be a CBI inquiry into the incident: West… pic.twitter.com/fkjYyCIm6n

Violence marred Thursday’s Ram Navami celebrations in a number of states. During the Ram Navami festivities, fighting broke out in Howrah and Dalkhola, both in West Bengal. Many vehicles were set on fire, while stores were looted in Howrah’s Kazipara.

A gang of persons allegedly stormed a Ram Navami parade and began hurling glass bottles, stones, and bricks at those who had taken part in it, according to the police. At Shibpur, too, during a Ram Navami parade, vehicles were set on fire. After the incident in Howrah, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee threatened to take action against those who are “into rioting and conspiracies.”

During fights between two groups during a parade in Dalkhola, one person was murdered and numerous others, including five to six police officers, were injured.

More fighting and incidents of stone-throwing were reported from Howrah on Friday.
