Jamshedpur, April 4: A 55-year-old man was run over by goods train near Tatanagar Loco drop-gate under the Tatanagar GRP thana area on Tuesday.
The mishap took place while the man was crossing the railway tracks even after the drop-gate was in place in view of the approaching trains in that stretch. The impact of the goods train that hit the pedestrian was so intense that the head of the victim got completely ruptured after it was severed from the body.
The body could not be recognised till the time the report was compiled.
Soon after the mishap took place, a team of Railway Protection Force officials reached the spot and removed the body to the MGM medical college mortuary for postmortem.
According to an eyewitness account, the man was coming from the Loco area having sneaked through the drop-gate and was stuck in the middle of a track, apparently bewildered two goods trains were running side by side in opposite directions.
Incidentally, the victim was standing in one of the tracks on which one of the trains was coming and eventually run over in full view of several bystanders beyond the drop-gate.
Significantly, several people always tend to cross the level-crossing even as the drop-gates remain in place on either side, risking their lives.
