New Delhi, April 4: Threats have been made against a number of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members in Jammu and Kashmir by the terrorist organisation “The Resistance Front.” The government designated the group as a prohibited organisation in January; it is a proxy for the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba, which has its base in Pakistan.

The 30 RSS leaders on the list are the target of the Kashmir terror outfit. Only three days have passed since RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat reaffirmed his call for an “Akhand Bharat.”

The government claims to be evaluating the threat. A senior government official confirmed that a list of 30 RSS members in charge of regions in South and North Kashmir and Jammu region had been published by the terror group on its website.

“TRF has threatened largely Muslim leaders who are allegedly associated with RSS, so we are also examining the genuineness of the threat,” the official added.

“It’s just weaponisation of social media and nothing else. Organisations like TRF just want to create false propaganda,” the official said.

There are no renowned names on the list. According to a local officer, such terrorist groups typically threaten people they believe to be allies of the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

“Terror outfits like TRF mostly threaten those who they perceive to be close to the JK administration. So, we are processing this aspect to the threat too,” the official said.

The threat letters appear at a time when the state administration is attempting to show that things have changed for the better in Kashmir.

An all-party group will travel to Kashmir in the upcoming weeks around Eid to assess the situation there at Farooq Abdullah’s invitation. The leaders of up to 13 opposition parties met in Delhi and sent a memo to the Election Commission requesting that the election process in Jammu and Kashmir begin as soon as the Union Territory’s delimitation is complete.

On April 1, RSS head Mohan Bhagwat asserted that, despite having been independent for more than 70 years, Pakistanis are still disgruntled and now believe that the division of India was a mistake.

At a celebration honouring the 100th birthday of the revolutionary and independence warrior Hemu Kalani, Bhagwat delivered these remarks. Several regions of the country’s Sindhi community also sent representatives to the event.
