New Delhi, April 5: According to data from the Union health ministry, India registered 4,435 new COVID-19 outbreaks on Wednesday, the largest daily increase in 163 days (five months and 13 days), while the number of active cases rose to 23,091.
On September 25 of the previous year, there were 4,777 cases altogether.
The new instances brought India’s COVID-19 total to 4.47 billion (4,47,33,719). The figures updated at 8 am showed that 15 deaths brought the death toll to 5,30,916.
One fatality each was reported from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Rajasthan. Four deaths were reported from Maharashtra, while four deaths were reconciled by Kerala.
The number of active cases has increased to 23,091, making about 0.5% of all infections. The website of the health ministry reports that the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.76%.
Both the daily and weekly positive rates were recorded at 3.38 and 2.79 per cent, respectively.
4,41,79,712 persons have recovered from the illness, while the case fatality rate is now 1.19 per cent.
On the ministry’s website, it is stated that the nationwide vaccination campaign has so far administered 220.66 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
