Saikat Dutta bags Rungta memorial trophy in West Singhbhum chess championship

Dhanbad, April 10: Saikat Dutta established his supremacy in the West Singhbhum district chess championship by winning the 12th  Padmabai Rungta trophy which concluded yesterday evening.

In seven rounds of the championship, Saikat Dutta remained unbeaten and got 6.5 points to bag first prize leaving Manish Sharma, Rajesh Kumar and Basant Khandelwal  (six points each) in second, third and fourth position respectively in the championship.

Dr Vijay Mundra was the chief guest in the closing ceremony in the evening and he gave away trophies as well as cash prize awards to the successful participants of the championship. Nitin Prakash and Balram Sultania were guests of honour on the occasion.

West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSCA) General Secretary Basant Khandelwal said that the top four players of this tournament would represent the district team in the Jharkhand senior chess championship.

Winners of all age groups

Besides the senior group, in the under-15 boys group, Manish Kumar Pradhan emerged as the champion and Anrav Kayal bagged the second position. In girls under 13, Soumya Prabhash  Soi became the champion while in the boys under-13 event, Ravi Dongo and Srijit Bhoumik won the first and the second prize respectively.

DAV School Chaibasa was given the award for the best school team while St Xavier English School Chaibasa bagged the best promising participant school.
