Ramgarh, April 10: A 30-year-old woman Soni Devi, along with her one-month-old baby, has been sitting on a hunger strike in a house in Roba Colony since Sunday evening. The woman says that she was already married and had an eight-year-old son from her first husband, but wanted to separate from him due to not having a good relationship with her husband.
Meanwhile, about six years ago, Ranjit Singh of Hazaribagh district, who lives with his parents in a rented house in Raba Colony Ramgarh, got to know her through Facebook and the matter turned into love.
The woman’s parents passed away in her childhood and she was brought up by her aunt living in Arrah. When she came to Jalandhar from her husband’s house, Ranjit Singh took Soni Devi with him six years ago. He brought her to Ramgarh and started living with him like husband and wife in a rented house near the railway station in Ramgarh. Meanwhile, there was a dispute between them about getting married. The woman alleges that she became pregnant seven times while living together, but every time Ranjit Singh forced her to have an abortion, due to which the woman became upset and complained about it at the police station. In the year 2021, the matter reached Sakhi One Step Center where Inspector Raje Kujur got both into an agreement and they got married and left the police station and got the advice to live like husband and wife.
But instead of improving, their relationship deteriorated further. The woman alleges that in the meantime Ranjit Singh took thirty thousand rupees and jewellery worth about one lakh kept with her by seducing her, and also took a loan of sixty thousand rupees from Bandhan Bank and another bank on the woman’s Aadhaar card.
After this, when the woman became pregnant again when she was forced to have an abortion, the woman flatly refused, leaving the woman in the same rented house, he started living in a rented house with his parents in Roba Colony. One and a half months ago, the woman gave birth to a child whose both legs were crooked. Ranjit Singh refused to give the maintenance of the child and the rest of the year’s house rent and household expenses, for which Soni Devi complained to the Women’s Police Station, Ramgarh and the National Human Rights Council. Under the agreement on the given application, Ranjit Singh agreed to give a total of Rs 2.5 lakh to the victim including Rs 30,000 cash and jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh taken from the woman. But now Ranjit Singh is refusing to give money or maintenance to the victim woman.
After procrastinating for the last fifteen days, Ranjit Singh took time by promising to pay the money on Saturday, but since Sunday morning he escaped with his parents after locking the rented house where the victim is waiting for justice. She is sitting on dharna in the hope to get justice.
