Guwahati, April 14: The first AIIMS in the Northeast, built at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore and located in Guwahai, Assam, was dedicated to the country today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The super-speciality hospital will offer medical services to residents of other northeastern states in addition to Assam.
Additionally, he virtually inaugurated three medical schools in Nalbari, Nagaon, and Kokrajhar.
The three medical institutions’ 24 undergraduate departments at the 500-bed tertiary care teaching hospitals would initially accept 100 MBBS students each year, bringing Assam’s total MBBS enrollment to 1500. Additionally, he lay the cornerstone for the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII), a collaborative project of the state government and IIT Guwahati, worth 546 crore.
By fusing engineering and healthcare, AAHII seeks to foster discoveries and breakthroughs in the fields of medicine and healthcare while fostering multidisciplinary research and development in cutting-edge medical fields.
The Prime Minister also announced the distribution of 1.1 crore Ayushman cards to recipients, who would be able to use these cards to get cashless healthcare benefits for medical treatment up to 5 lakh.
