Chandigarh, April 17: A senior Punjab Police official announced on Monday that an Army jawan has been detained in connection with the murder of four soldiers at the Bathinda Military Station.

The soldier who was taken into custody was identified as Desai Mohan by Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Gulneet Singh Khurana. The SSP said, “The motive was personal. He had enmity with them.” On April 12, gunfire within the military station in Bathinda resulted in the deaths of four soldiers while they slept.

An FIR was filed against two unidentified individuals at the Bathinda Cantonment police station under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and pertinent sections of the Arms Act.

Desai Mohan was the one who claimed to have observed two unidentifiable individuals leaving the barracks in white kurta-pyjamas after the shots were fired.

According to Desai Mohan in the police FIR, one of them had an INSAS weapon and the other had an axe.

One of the biggest Army stations in the nation, the Bathinda military station houses several of the force’s operational units.
