Discomfort index rises across Jharkhand, rain likely on Wednesday

Jamshedpur, April 17: In absence of rain, the discomfort index across the state is on the rise.

Statistics suggested that the discomfort index in most parts of the state reached a punishing 65 degrees, 10 notches above normal, on the back of a westerly wind pattern and moderate relative humidity.

Daltonganj experienced the hottest day of the season with the mercury soaring to around 42°C, three notches above normal.

Jamshedpur and Chaibasa in West Singhbhum, too, recorded a similar temperature.

Weathermen ruled out any heat wave conditions in the next few days.

The local IMD centre in Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4°C on Sunday, one notch above normal.

Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Giridih, Chatra and several districts of north-eastern Jharkhand recorded high discomfort index.

The heat and humidity resulted pushed up the discomfort index.

The morning and noon would be uncomfortable in Kolhan and several districts in central and northwestern Jharkhand today.

In Garhwa and Deoghar, the maximum temperature crossed 41°C.

Weathermen said light rain or thunderstorm activity is likely at isolated places over north-western parts of the state on Wednesday, April 19.

Light rain or thunderstorm is also likely at isolated places over southern and adjoining central parts of the state on Thursday.
