Dhaka, April 24: Veteran politician Mohammed Shahabuddin was sworn in as Bangladesh’s 22nd president on Monday at a formal state ceremony which was attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet colleagues
Shahabuddin, 73, was sworn in at the venerable Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury. Politicians, Supreme Court judges, and prominent civil and military officials were among the attendees, in addition to prime minister Hasina and the incoming president’s family
Abdul Hamid’s term as president concluded on Sunday, and Shahabuddin takes his place. Shahabuddin put his signature on the oath papers for the presidency after the swearing-in event.
