Kolkata, April 27: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered an NIA investigation into the violence that occurred in Shibpur, Howrah district, during Ram Navami celebrations.
Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the Opposition, filed a public interest litigation (PIL), and a division bench presided over by Acting Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam ordered that the West Bengal Police’s probe be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Adhikari asked for an NIA investigation into the alleged bomb explosion-related violence in the PIL.
The court ordered the state police to hand over all documents and CCTV footage related to the case to the central government within two weeks.
The Centre was then instructed to forward the documents to the NIA.
