Jamshedpur, April 27: A 14-year-old boy Lalit Prasad was killed as the scooter he was riding pillion with his father was hit by a bus from behind near the Tata Steel’s Power House gate on Jugsalai-Bistupur road under Jugsalai thana area on Thursday morning.

The mishap took place when the boy who was a student of Beldi Church School in Bistupur was on his way to the school.

The victim’s father Vikash Prasad who is a resident of Ramtekri Road in Jugsalai was seriously injured in the mishap.

Soon after the accident took place a police party from the Jugsalai thana – located about 200 metres away — rushed both the father and son to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared the boy dead.

Police said a yellow-coloured bus which was coming from the Jugsalai end at a breakneck speed caused a mishap by hitting the scooter from behind.

“Though several passersby had seen the bus hitting the scooter, the bus driver had fled the scene having accelerated the speed. We are trying to identify the killer bus by taking CCTV footage from the cameras installed near the mishap spot, ” said the OC of the Jugsalai thana.

Lalit Prasad was a standard VIII student in the Beldi Church School. As the news of his death spread, a pall of gloom descended both at the locality he would live in and also in the school.  The family members were wailing inconsolably on getting the news of the only son’s death.
